Superbowl I ring

As I may have mentioned, TubaPants comes at you from the frozen tundra of Northeast Wisconsin. And, like it or not, the Green Bay Packers are more than just our team, they are a way of life for many. Open the phone book, and you’ll be dumbfounded by the number of businesses that have “Packerland” in their name.

While I’ve not done the research, I’m willing to bet that the Packers have far and away the most art created in their honor (posters, paintings, songs, movies, plays, books, etc.). One form I had not seen was poetry… that is until now. Our good buddy Jon penned the stanzas below to honor the surprisingly successful season the Pack has brought us.

The Night Before Playoffs

By Jon Bruinooge

Twas the night before playoffs
And all through Green Bay
All the cheeseheads were dreaming
Of another win on Sunday

I had on my beer goggles
And custom made cheesehead
It was a long night of fun
So I stumbled to bed

Suddenly something crashed outside
Waking me from my stupor
I rushed to the window to spy
My sleep party pooper.

What was this? I said
As my bloodshot eyes did behold
All of the Packers
Decked out in Green and Gold

They rushed toward my driveway
Pulling a sled with their approach
Behind them on the reins
Was Mike McCarthy, their coach!

I let them inside quickly
I just wanted to talk
I also wanted autographs
From Favre, Harris and Hawk.

I asked for their strategy
And they’d reveal just a smidge
While Brady Poppinga
Raided my fridge

Brett said winning was second
What came first was fun
If we forgot about that
We were as good as done

They said they must go
There’s work they must do
They need to be prepared
For what waits in Round 2

They said as they left,
Still fighting for their goal
We’ll see you in Phoenix,
At this season’s Super Bowl!
