U.S. Cellular Offering Free Battery Exchange

Posted by Gary on May 19th, 2009

This is unprecedented in the cell phone industry.  Starting today, U.S. Cellular customers with dead or dying batteries can walk into any retail store and receive a fully charged replacement for free.  Two minor catches… 1) you need to be a U.S. Cellular customer and 2)  your phone needs to have been purchased within the [...]

This is kind of a neat idea.  A tour company called Competitours offers tours of Europe that emulate the competition of the hit TV series Amazing Race by incorporating offbeat tasks each day.
According to this National Geographic article, a fella by the name of Steve Belkin recently launched this unique service.  “Challenges are set up [...]

Graves… Take two, they’re small

Posted by Gary on May 16th, 2008

BOGO offers (buy one, get one - usuallly free) have become commonplace in today’s competitive marketplace. But I stumbled across one on my local newspaper website that struck me as odd, funny and just plain interesting.
A local establishment, Allouez Catholic Cemetary & Chapel Mausoleum, is advertising a BOGO offer on graves. I guess [...]

Time to get Schlitz-faced

Posted by Gary on April 8th, 2008

Old-School brew Schlitz is attempting a comeback.  Currently owned by another throwback brand, Pabst Brewing Co., they’re releasing a classic formula called “Classic 1960s Formula” in bottles in select markets.
According to an article in today’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel,
“…Pabst is selling bottled Schlitz as a sudsy comfort food for men in their 50s and early 60s. [...]

Security guard fired for securing

Posted by Gary on April 6th, 2008

How retarded is this! Dean Babcock, a TARGET security guard in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin was fired recently for busting a 16 year old girl for shoplifting alcohol from the store. I would say alleged, but he caught her not once, but twice, and had video evidence on top of it. But because [...]

Lacrosse (the sport, not the city) draws throngs

Posted by Gary on March 23rd, 2008

Denver’s major sports arena is the 19,000+ seat Pepsi Center.  Came across an interesting article from the Rocky Mountain News that points out that the tenant with the largest attendance at the center is not the Denver Nuggets of the NBA (17,099 avg. attendance), nor is it the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL (16,728)… but [...]

Potential Candy Catastrophe

Posted by Gary on March 7th, 2008

As a kid growing up in the Milwaukee area in the 70s there were several things that were icons of my childhood - JicJac Soda, Leon’s custard and candy raisins are three that jump to mind.  Leon’s is still hanging in there, but JicJac is gone and now, candy raisins are threatened with extinction.

James Bond in Real Life

Posted by Gary on February 17th, 2008

We’ve seen cars that can travel on water like boats, but now automaker Rinspeed has developed a prototype car that travels UNDERwater.  In the spirit of James Bond in “The Spy Who Loved Me,” albeit not nearly as well-armed, comes the $1.5 million Squba.  Check out the CNN article and the Rinspeed website for details [...]

Gizmodo has this elaborately detailed timeline and fun facts about Lego bricks.  Not the least of which, they are officially not called Legos.  [...]

by-the-by

Posted by Joe on December 10th, 2007

Just so you know…
you are not allowed to have a “Bake-off”  only General Mills can have a “Bake-off”… because apparently they own the rights to the word “bake-off”… and they aren’t shy to step into a small town and flex their muscle over a local group raising money for a good cause.
