This is why you’re fat

Posted by Gary on March 5th, 2009

And here I thought it had to do with a low metabolism or something… but the site thisiswhyyourefat.com sheds light on the matter - with some of the strangest and grossest food concoctions on the planet.  Pictured above is the 30,000 calorie sandwich:
Sandwich filled with ground beef, bacon, corn dogs, ham, pastrami, roast beef, bratwurst, braunschweiger and turkey, topped with fried mushrooms, onion rings, swiss/provolone/cheddar/feta/parmesan cheeses, lettuce [...]

Vader Toast!

Posted by Gary on November 10th, 2008

I’ve long held that toast is a nearly perfect food. Now, it’s even more perfect-er, in a total geek sort of way. For $55 you can get your hands on a toaster that burns the image of none other than Darth Vader on your toast. Here’s to a balanced breakfast, with the [...]

Time to get Schlitz-faced

Posted by Gary on April 8th, 2008

Old-School brew Schlitz is attempting a comeback.  Currently owned by another throwback brand, Pabst Brewing Co., they’re releasing a classic formula called “Classic 1960s Formula” in bottles in select markets.
According to an article in today’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel,
“…Pabst is selling bottled Schlitz as a sudsy comfort food for men in their 50s and early 60s. [...]

I mentioned last week that Candy Raisins, a treat from my childhood growing up in the Milwaukee area, are in danger of going the way of the dinosaur.
Please visit the site I’ve whipped up - www.SaveTheCandyRaisins.com - and sign the petition in hopes that we can keep these confectionary delights around for generations to come.

Potential Candy Catastrophe

Posted by Gary on March 7th, 2008

As a kid growing up in the Milwaukee area in the 70s there were several things that were icons of my childhood - JicJac Soda, Leon’s custard and candy raisins are three that jump to mind.  Leon’s is still hanging in there, but JicJac is gone and now, candy raisins are threatened with extinction.

Students Punished After Paying for Lunch with Pennies

Posted by Gary on March 5th, 2008

The copper-headed stepchild of the currency world is at the center of a dustup in Readington Township, NJ. A group of 29 eighth graders played a prank disguised as civil disobedience by paying for their lunch all in pennies. After the fact, they said it was to protest a shortened lunch period.
I guess [...]

Top Gun (sorta)

Posted by Gary on February 10th, 2008

This is an oldie, but a goodie.  Sports Illustrated writer Rick Reilly had the opportunity of a lifetime… to take a flight in an F-14 Tomcat.  To say it didn’t go well is probably an understatement.  He knew he might be getting in over his head before takeoff:
I was worried about getting airsick, so [...]

Quest to be the Biggest Loser

Posted by Gary on September 28th, 2007

I’m fat. Not big-boned, or husky, or fluffy… I’m fat. So, fatso, whaddya gonna do about it?
Glad you asked.  Because besides being overweight, I’m also pretty competitive.  And a bunch of folks I know have gotten together for our own version of The Biggest Loser with cash & prizes for the bloke who [...]

Fruity cocktails = healthy

Posted by Gary on April 20th, 2007

Not since ketchup counted as a vegetable has there been a story that rocked the foundations of the food world like the research that was reported yesterday.  A group of U.S. & Thai researchers reports that the alcohol in fruity drinks actually enhances the antioxident nutrients in colored fruits.
No word on whether Dr. Buffet will [...]

Deep fried butter (aka, instant death)

Posted by Gary on April 12th, 2007

Ok.  A couple thoughts before I get to the topic at hand.
First, yes, I watch the Food Network.  Giada De Laurentiis is hot, Iron Chef is awesome and Alton Brown is both entertaining and informative.
Second, yes, I realize that my state is the home of deep fried cheese… the irony is not lost on me.

Beat on the brat fry

Posted by Gary on March 6th, 2007

In their infinite wisdom, the city of De Pere, WI here in the great white north has proven that they have WAY too much time on their hands - specifically public health sanitarian Kris Murphy and assistant fire chief Jim Stupka.
Here’s the dealio… the Green Bay area has this wonderful tradition of holding charity brat [...]

Twice the Hooters… Twice the, um, fun?

Posted by Gary on February 4th, 2007

From CNews via YesButNoButYes… comes the story of this well-to-do suburb of Detroit (Troy, MI) that lost their fight to keep a second Hooters from opening in their little hoity-toity hamlet.
I think this excerpt says it all:
“Critics are concerned that the restaurants’ scantily clad servers don’t fit the image the city seeks to project in [...]

Then, I think you would enjoy this site.  Its PLANET M&M.  One of the fun features is, make your own M&M character!
