Fruity cocktails = healthy

Posted by Gary on April 20th, 2007

Not since ketchup counted as a vegetable has there been a story that rocked the foundations of the food world like the research that was reported yesterday.  A group of U.S. & Thai researchers reports that the alcohol in fruity drinks actually enhances the antioxident nutrients in colored fruits. No word on whether Dr. Buffet [...]

All in the timing

Posted by Gary on April 13th, 2007

Those sleuthy folks over at the Consumerist have posted several links showing that Menu Foods (purveyors of contaminated pet food) CFO Mark Wiens sold half his stock shares three weeks before the recall was announced. In what Wiens calls “a horrible coincidence,” it has also become known that Menu waited three weeks between discovering the [...]

Al Gore tear down all that luxury!

Posted by Joe on February 28th, 2007

Apparently, Al Gore isn’t “Green” enough for Drew Johnson, President of the think tank that pushes for conservative economic issues. They compare Gore’s 10,000-square foot home to the average Nashville household to prove that he is a waste… I’m sure everyone in Nashville owns a 10,000 square foot home… Either way, this article just stinks [...]

Motherf*cking Snakes in a Motherf*cking Wal-Mart

Posted by Gary on February 26th, 2007

Ok, so a snake gets loose in the garden center of a Florida Wal-Mart and bites a customer.  Kinda freaky, but stuff happens.  At two to three times, we’re still in the ‘coincidence’ category.  But now there have been at least seven reports of customers getting bitten by pygmy rattlesnakes. The lesson?  Screw the garden. [...]

Skydiver crash video that will blow your mind

Posted by Gary on February 14th, 2007

British skydiver Michael Holmes jumps out of a plane at 12,000 feet.  First chute doesn’t open.  Second chute doesn’t open.  He crashes into the ground at 80 mph.  All of it is caught on his freaking helmet cam!  Oh, and he lives to tell about it. Check out the video here at the Daily Mail [...]

“Blue Monday” – Unhappiest day of the year

Posted by Gary on January 22nd, 2007

Well, if you’re feeling a little sluggish today, there’s a scientific reason. According to experts, today is the unhappiest day of the year. Taking into account mathematical equations that account for things like bad weather, debts from Christmas shopping and failure to keep New Year resolutions, January 22nd is the most unhappy day of the [...]

Prepare to be blown away…

Posted by Joe on January 11th, 2007

If you are familiar with String Theory, or at least interested in the concept… here is an interesting animation to take a look at. It sums up the first chapter of a new book entitled Imagining the Tenth Dimension. Now, I’m not advocating the book, but I’m advocating watching the animation on the website… I’d [...]

Giant squid caught on video

Posted by Gary on December 26th, 2006

For the first time ever, scientists have captured video of a live giant squid.  Unfortunately, the elusive creature in question died while they attempted to capture it.  But the findings are still pretty amazing.  The story and video from Reuters can be found here. Technorati Tags: squid, Reuters

What the hell are frankincense and myrrh?

Posted by Gary on December 11th, 2006

Most, if not all, of us are aware of the story of the three kings/wisemen/magi (Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar) who visit baby Jesus and come bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Sixteen years of Catholic education, and I never really learned what the heck frankincense and myrrh were. According to Wikipedia, Frankincense or olibanum [...]

Earth’s full… NASA to colonize moon

Posted by Gary on December 5th, 2006

NASA announced Monday it will establish an international base camp on one of the moon’s poles, permanently staffing it by 2024, four years after astronauts return to the moon. In a related story, Century 21 has a full page ad in today’s USA Today for a lunar condo development ready for occupancy in 2025.  The [...]

Not So Empty Space

Posted by Matt on October 10th, 2006

Last week NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope discovered 16 extrasolar planet candidates 26,000 light years away.  While that’s too far for a Sunday jaunt, the news is incredibly exciting for scientists as it is the furthest they’ve ever used the telescope to study.  The discovery helps lend support to the theory that over  6 billion Jupiter-sized [...]

How did Spiderman’s girlfriend die?

Posted by Gary on September 22nd, 2006

From BoingBoing, a story about a professor who teaches the physics of superheroes and comic books. The clip linked to from this story details how Spiderman‘s girlfriend (Gwen Stacy) died in Amazing Spiderman #121. Really good (geeky) stuff. You Knew I Was Going To Write About This

Posted by Matt on September 6th, 2006

Didn’t You? According to Rupert Sheldrake, you very well might have. He was able to “prove” that “telephone telepathy” occurs more often than it should, but he only used very small groups as his test cases. Now he plans to see if he can get lightening to strike a twice with text messaging. Sounds to [...]

We’re a bunch of drunks

Posted by Gary on August 25th, 2006

It’s official, my hometown is the drunkest in the nation! This comes, not from Maxim or Playboy, but from Forbes.com and their ranking of America’s Drunkest Cities. That’s right, Milwaukee, WI is the drunkest city in America. A dubious distinction, sure. But perhaps there’s is a way to spin this. With many of the breweries [...]
