James Bond in Real Life

Posted by gary on February 17th, 2008

We’ve seen cars that can travel on water like boats, but now automaker Rinspeed has developed a prototype car that travels UNDERwater.  In the spirit of James Bond in “The Spy Who Loved Me,” albeit not nearly as well-armed, comes the $1.5 million Squba.  Check out the CNN article and the Rinspeed website for details […]

Top Gun (sorta)

Posted by Gary on February 10th, 2008

This is an oldie, but a goodie.  Sports Illustrated writer Rick Reilly had the opportunity of a lifetime… to take a flight in an F-14 Tomcat.  To say it didn’t go well is probably an understatement.  He knew he might be getting in over his head before takeoff:
I was worried about getting airsick, so […]

Still Life

Posted by Gary on February 3rd, 2008

Way cool, spooky short film about a young man on a road trip who takes an unexpected detour through a small town… and the startling events that unfold. Run time is about nine pretty gripping minutes. “Still Life” was directed by John Knautz and starring Trevor Matthews.

Let’s see Earl Scheib do this!

Imagine a full body henna tattoo, but for your car.  Not just any car, mind you, but a Lamborghini.  Pretty freakin’ cool, some might say.  Pretty freakin’ f’d up, others might say.  you decide.  Here’s the original post from “Things you don’t see everyday” along with additional pix.

Travel the world on the cheap

Posted by Gary on July 21st, 2007

Just saw this site on Nightline, and thought it deserved mention.  The concept is awesomely simple and hopefully it catches on.  Basically, you can travel the world and crash on someone’s couch (or spare room) to save some moolah.  Transportation is your responsibility, but you can save on lodging by crashing with strangers.
Check out CouchSurfing.com […]

Tha Pope’a Says!

Posted by Joe on June 19th, 2007

The Vatican must have found a burning bush over the weekend, because they have come down with a new set of commandments, the Motorists’ 10 Commandments! God be praised, maybe now people wont be complete knobs on the roadways… well, they’ll still be knobs, but they will BURN IN HELL FOR ETERNITY for it […]

This parade is not for the lazy

Posted by Gary on May 17th, 2007

Hey, if you’re not doing anything on Saturday, you might wanna head over to Whalan, Minnesota for the annual Stand Still Parade.
Here’s the dealio… the main drag in town is barely two blocks long, which would make for a pretty short traditional parade. And with a population of around sixty, they don’t have any […]

Earlybird Special at Brothel

Posted by Gary on March 26th, 2007

Folks joke about the earlybird specials at restaurants and the geriatric crowd they attract. But there’s no arguing with the popularity of the deals among the frugal blue hair set.
Now, that concept is being applied to the sex industry. A German brothel is offering a 50% discount to seniors 66 and older for sex […]

Skydiver crash video that will blow your mind

Posted by Gary on February 14th, 2007

British skydiver Michael Holmes jumps out of a plane at 12,000 feet.  First chute doesn’t open.  Second chute doesn’t open.  He crashes into the ground at 80 mph.  All of it is caught on his freaking helmet cam!  Oh, and he lives to tell about it.
Check out the video here at the Daily Mail - […]

Million-mile automobile

Posted by Gary on December 11th, 2006

Traveling salesman Peter Gilbert drove his car a lot.  Like a million miles, a lot.
The Milwaukee area resident just retired his 1989 Saab 900 because the frame was finally starting to rust out due to the harsh Wisconsin winters.  My favorite part… “The transmission was rebuilt at 200,000 miles and the hood and a few […]

Earth’s full… NASA to colonize moon

Posted by Gary on December 5th, 2006

NASA announced Monday it will establish an international base camp on one of the moon’s poles, permanently staffing it by 2024, four years after astronauts return to the moon.
In a related story, Century 21 has a full page ad in today’s USA Today for a lunar condo development ready for occupancy in 2025.  The 2 […]

Controlled chaos traffic experiment

Posted by Gary on November 20th, 2006

This is intriguing… several European cities are experimenting with doing away with all traffic signs and letting the people police themselves, essentially.
Surprisingly, it appears to be working. In the areas that have had the new system in place for a while, accidents are down.
While I fully understand the theories behind it, I’m skeptical that […]

TSA protecting us from rubber band balls

Posted by Gary on November 14th, 2006

“I was departing a small commuter airport in Southern California last week and I found myself in jail!”
So begins the tale of a young man detained and arrested for possession of *gasp* a rubber band ball by TSA agents. He was also suspected of being under the influence of a controlled substance, which turned out […]
